Submersible well pumps are often used for deep wells and have some key benefits, such as being able to work great while being submerged underwater. If you have one of these pumps and want to get many years of optimal performance from it, be sure to take these actions.

Follow the Correct Lubrication Guidelines

If you want your submersible well pump to perform efficiently long-term, then you need to lubricate it in a strategic manner. Lubrication requirements can vary from pump to pump, so you'll need to find out exactly what your pump manufacturer wants you to do with this maintenance step.

They should have specific requirements as far as what type of lubrication product to use and when to use it on your submersible well pump. Just follow their lubrication suggestions to the letter and then overheating and friction won't be probable.

Monitor Temperature of the Motor

The component that powers your submersible well pump and thus helps it move water to your home is the motor. A well-functioning pump motor shouldn't ever overheat, and this is something to keep an eye on. If the motor has a temperature gauge, it will be easy to tell if it's overheating or not.

Whereas if it doesn't, you may need to use a digital temperature gun and gather readings manually. Either way, if you find out the pump's motor is getting hotter than it should be on a consistent basis, schedule an inspection with a pump repair contractor. It could be a lubrication issue or your pump may be running longer than it really should. A professional inspection can give you answers.

Replace Worn Seals

Eventually, the seals on your submersible well pump can wear down because of hot temperatures and vibration. If you notice any signs of wear, such as cracking, be sure to replace these components as soon as you can. Then you won't have to deal with a major leak.

The new seals will keep your submersible well pump working great, and then you'll just need to inspect them on a regular basis from here on out. If you invest in quality replacement seals, you shouldn't have to intervene with repairs for a long time.

If you have a well that relies on a submersible pump to send water into your home, maintenance will keep it working great year after year. You just need to take an active interest in the performance and condition of important components on this pump.
